Thanks for the update. I just want to share my recent experience because I started this topic several weeks ago. A little background info-My 3 year old son has 7 cavities and 5 of them require root canal and crown. The first dentist I took him to see was certain that he needs general anesthesia conducted in his office to get all his teeth fixed. Obviously the fact that my son started crying the minute he saw the dentist didn't help either. We didn't even manage to get x ray done that day. At that point we thought GA is probably unavoidable. However thanks to the opinions and recommendations from this forum, we decided to give it another try at Dr sherry Sharif's office at fair oaks hospital. What a difference that is ! With all the drawings on the wall, the friendly staff and TV playing his favorite Netflix cartoon, my son went thru x ray and tooth cleaning on the first visit without fuss. Last week he got his major cavities fixed with root canal and crown done under laughing gas. He enjoyed his movie the whole time and barely made a sound! Although he needs to go there a couple more times to get rest of teeth fixed, we feel really relieved that he avoided GA. Again, I want to thank everyone who shared opinion or experience with us. And I highly recommend Dr Sharif. Thanks. Jeff 2013-07-03 06:21:33 |

I used to think Dr. Sharif and her practice is excellent and ethics until my recent experince of seeking orthodontic treatment for my 11 years old son. My son was under her care since he was 4. Despite all the negetive aspects, she is cold, waiting time is long, staff sometime is rude, all that doesn't bother me a bit because she think she really care for the children teeth, I trusted her expertise and never doubt her treatment. All these started to change until recen. My son is 11 now and always had issue with crowded and crooked teeth. She recommended it is good time to begin orthodonist treatment. Over the couse of past few years, she had recommended and extracted 2 upper molars(I believed they are 10 yrs molar) to create more space for 12 yrs molar to erupt. She said my son had small mouth and too many teeth. I had never questioned that and thought it totally makes sense. After 10 yr molar got extracted, the reserved empty space was taken over quickly by the existing teeth. Now her orthodonist recommended to extract additional 2 upper molar to create more spaces for 2 stuck teeth, 2 lower molar. That is totally 4 perfect healthy teeth. I looked all these room in my son's mouth started questioning the treatment plan. They kept telling me my son had small jaw and can't fit all the teeth and you don't really need all the teeth. I started research online myself and read different orthodonist treatment options, cons vs. pros. I came to the realization that teeth extraction is a "quick and dirty" way get straight teeth, but neglect other protential side effects could cause in the later life. I could done more harm than good. I am REALLY regret for the two taked out teeth. I will definitely go somewhere else for the orthodonist treatment, specially when her financial lady try to get me sign the contract without even review the treatment plan. 2015-08-25 11:30:19 |
