| Details: | Hi, Parents and Students, Happy New Year! The Discover Learning Center's (DLC) mission is to unlock, develop, and enhance our students' potential. To that end, DLC strives to provide a high quality, intense, and academically accelerated education with a primary focus on the basics in each academic area. We use an accelerated curriculum for math, reading, phonics, writing, spelling, and grammar in a small group learning environment. We offer classes that help students prepare for the Admissions Test for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology; SAT preparation, and GT (COGAT and the NNAT) Testing. We focus on enhancing each student’s language and math skills. DLC has built a ‘weekend’ private school that has a high academic standard, but is also a place where children, each one of whom is special and unique, desire to come and learn. Along with our extensive experience and demonstrated success, our devoted teachers ensure that every student is treated with love and respect so every one becomes more confident and creative enabling each to build his or her own successful future. English Language/Writing for 5th Grader (second half) in Reston (Friday 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm) English Language/Writing for 6th Grader (second half) in Reston (Saturday 9:00 am – 11:00 am) TJ Language/ Essay Writing for 7th Grader in Herndon (Saturday 9:00 am – 11:00 am) TJ Language/ Essay Writing for 7th Grader in Herndon (Sunday 9:00 am – 11:00 am) SAT Critical Reading/Writing (Sunday 11:00am to 1:00pm) AP BC Calculus (second half) in Herndon (Sunday 7:00pm to 9:00pm) Geometry (second half) in Herndon (Saturday 7:00pm to 9:00pm) Algebra 1 in Herndon (Sunday 5:00pm to 7:00pm TJ math in Herndon (Saturday 5:15pm to 6:45pm) All the class will start in the week of Feb. 15th. http://www.discoverlearningcenterva.com/ Our Result: Our TJ Language and Writing preparation program is known for being a highly successful program in the Northern Virginia area. Students in this program learn the tools that enable them to be successful when they take the TJ Entrance Exam in December 2013. In the Fall of 2010 class, 10 out of 12 students were accepted for 2015 class. In the Fall 2011 class, 21 out of 27 students were accepted for the 2016 class following the second elimination round. My children attended Lisa Zhang's Discovery Learning in Herndon Virginia. They both enjoyed the class as it fit into their schedules (Sunday morning). It was not easy waking up early on a Sunday morning but both of my children are better writers after being in the class. Lisa Zhang is an organized devoted owner. 2015-03-09 12:32:06 |

Discovery Learning Center is one of the worst test prep centers that I have attended. As a semifinalist to Thomas Jefferson High school, I have enrolled in DLC's writing test prep. I have found the feedback very minimal and vague, not helpful AT ALL. One of the writing teachers, Mrs. Radja, demonstrates this extreme lack of care or even desire for the aspiring hope of the next generation. I think that there are better alternatives that can give you an sharp edge, opposed to this dull hunk of metal provided by DLC. 2019-02-07 18:13:47 |

TJ prep. program at Discover Learning Center is the best in this area after having tried many other centers. Critical Reading helped especially.
