| Details: | The lawyer was Bruce Blaylock. https://www.blaylocklaw.com/ His office is in Bethesda. The accident happened in MD; I lived in DC. I could have chosen to file suit in either state; my lawyer recommended MD (I forget why). Question for you (others have asked the same)--what do you hope to gain? In my case, I had physical injuries (whiplash which appeared a few days after the accident). So I had monetary damages--the costs for PT and time taken off from work to attend PT. Plus deductible. So for a lawyer to take a case on contingency, there has to be some financial reward for them. In my case, the judge awarded some money in excess of my actual costs--that money went to the lawyer. If you don't have any costs besides the deductible (and future increases in insurance), there may not be a reason to award damages in excess of costs. I'm really not sure. My recommendation: Get a consultation with a reputable lawyer who would represent you on contingency. The consultation should be free. In my case, the initial consultation was enough for the lawyer to determine I had a good case and it would be one he was willing to take on. But if there isn't enough potential money in punitive damages, it may not be worth their while to take the case on contingency. I went to the Letnick firm website (recommended by Karen S.) and saw that they offer a free consultation but they charge a flat fee for criminal and traffic cases. A car accident may or may not be considered a traffic case--a speeding ticket is a typical traffic case. But they might be a good place to start since they offer a free consultation and apparently are a reputable firm. 2021-09-12 17:51:16 |
