| Details: | You get what you pay for. Thompson Creek did a great job on my house. Money well spent. --------------------- I have used Window Man in Fairfax for many years and have always been satisfied-not cheap but high quality. -------------------- have found that replacing windows is expensive if one goes the route of replacing all of the windows at once. Instead when I had windows needing work I had just the glass replaced by Reston Glass on just the five windows with bad glass -------------------- Reston glass used my current frames and just replaced the glass. I saved thousands of dollars by not replacing all of the windows. Now 10 years later I have 5 more glass panes to replace. Once again I'll only replace the bad glass. Imo I won't save enough on energy efficiency by replacing all of the windows and spending thousands of dollars rather than a few hundred dollars. -------------------- I also got my front door from Window Man and had a problem years later and they replaced it at no cost. --------------------- American Windows & Siding are great. We used them to replace windows couple of years ago. ------------------------ Thompson Creek's salesmen are trained to be very high pressure. I was taken in by a visit from one of them a few years ago. I was afraid to say no. After the person left I cancelled the contract, but had to pay for overnight postage to the company to stay within the 2 business day Virginia cancellation law. I was alone at the time and the salesman really thought he could bamboozle me. --------------------------- Buyer beware of ratings based on reviews. It is well known in marketing circles that Advertisers on Angie’s List pay to get good reviews and I’m sure they do so in many other “trusted” publications. Just saying --------------------------- I also got one of those flyers a few years ago from Thompson Creek. I mentioned it to my dad and he said he was high school friends with a guy who was high up there. I used him name thinking I might get a deal and was assured I would get some friends and family price. The sales rep walked me through an incredibly long (90+ min sales pitch and I kept trying to speed it up since I was in the midst of some other DIY home renovations and after being walked through this whole thing with a massive binder, heat lamp props, their windows vs competitors etc I eventually was able to get a price out of the sales person. It was about $42k from what I recall which was substantially higher than what I was expecting. After being stunned and not having gotten bids from anyone else I wasn’t ready to proceed. The sales person used high pressure tactics and said he wouldn’t get a dime of commission unless I signed a contract that evening. Upon not agreeing to sign, he made a last ditch offer and dropped the price by as much as like $7k (just goes to show how much markup there is if they can just knock off that much). I still wasn’t ready to commit given the high price tag and nothing to compare it to. The guy got upset and said that I needed to sign a paper which had a bunch of junk on there and I refused to sign it. (Basically that I was presented an amazingly incredible, once in a lifetime offer and I still am choosing to stupidly decline). The verbiage was insane and I refused given the absurdity. He said I had to sign it because he had to turn it in to his supervisor. I told him I didn’t need to sign anything and he didn’t relent until I told him to get out of my house. It was a terrible experience and I provided that feedback when the company sent me an email asking for a review. Upon providing a negative review and accepting to be contacted about it, the knocked a few thousand more off but there was no way I was going to agree to use that company. I ended up finding a great guy who installs windows independently. Great guy and great experience but cash only (yes a bit nerve wracking but worked out great) -------------------------------------- Pella is the best! Local and guaranteed warranty. They did a GREAT JOB for us and have done many extras like replaced some wood rot. They did this for no extra cost. -------------------------------------- We replaced our windows less than a year ago. Got estimates from Thompson Creek, Anderson, Window Nation, Nova Installations and Tri County (and one other door-to-door company I won’t even mention).Thompson Creek and Anderson’s estimates were both more than double the other three. The Window Nation sales guy was slimy and very high pressure and our meeting ended with me asking him to leave and not return (it turned ugly when I said I wouldn’t consider signing a contract that day). We could have gone with either Nova or Tri County and been very happy - both are family owned businesses who don’t need to rely on advertising which makes the products more expensive. We went with Nova Installations and the energy savings after one year has been staggering. Have nothing but excellent things to say. ---------------------------------------------- We used Thompson Creek. Love them. Local company and they are trustworthy! Many of our nexuses them ---------------------------------------------------- Several years ago I called Thompson Creek for estimates on window and door replacements. The salesman was very high pressure, and even though I told him I already had three other estimates, his price was triple the next highest price quote I received. He insisted on going through his dog and pony show and was really belligerent when I told him I wasn’t going to make a decision today. I ended up getting Anderson windows from Home Depot, they did a great job and their price was very competitive. ------------------------------------ Donna, I had the exact same negative experience with THompson Creek and the price was through the roof. I also ended up with Home Depot brand windows {The highest quality ones} And I had a great experience. ------------------------------------------ We used Power Home Remodeling. --------------------------------------------- I love my Thompson Creek Windows!
