ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Ken Ulman today announced that Howard County’s unemployment rate for March 2014 remained at 4.2 percent. This marks the 60th time in the last 72 months that Howard County has maintained the lowest unemployment rate in the state. “We continue to create the conditions for companies to grow, and we won’t stop our efforts,” said Ulman. The overall state unemployment rate is 5.9 percent. The Maryland Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation recently reported on positive indicators that Maryland’s economic strength is growing. The Pew Center on the States rated Maryland one of the Top Three states in the nation for economic mobility and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce placed Maryland #1 in the nation for Entrepreneurship and Innovation for the second year in a row. In 2013, Environmental Entrepreneurs ranked Maryland 4th in the nation, and #1 in the region, for total green jobs. “Howard County stands as a leader in entrepreneurship with The Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship , a pioneer in innovation with 3D Maryland and a strong advocate for green initiatives and opportunities through public development and private partnerships,” added Ulman.
