Warmest congratulations to our 8th graders who performed very well on the TJ test and became semifinalists! Warmest congratulations to 5th- 8th graders achieved Honor Roll and Distinguished Honor Roll awards in AMC 8 and many of our 6th-8th graders made it to their schools’ MathCounts teams! They performed very well in the Chapter (regional) competition and six of our students made it to the statewide MathCounts competition! Congratulations! Our 183 students’ creative stories have been selected for publication this year by the Anthology of Short Stories by Young Americans. Discounted tuition is available through March 15. For detailed info about tuition and schedules, please visit http://sunshine-academy.org/. Students should register for programs based on the grade they will attend during the 2014-15 school year. Detailed information regarding our programs is as follows: In our camp, we will offer reading, writing, and math programs for rising 1st -11th graders. All of our summer camp teachers are current, excellent professionals with years of experience in FCPS. They will stay at the camp from 8:30am to 5:30 pm every day. For the duration of the camp, they can give you detailed feedback on the progress of your children. After classes, we also offer free afternoon activities including chess, sports, drawing and English speech. For our rising 1st and 2nd graders, we will offer GT prep classes. Students who have taken our GT Prep classes have been extremely successful in joining GT centers or school-based GT programs. The teachers for the 1st and 2nd classes are all current, outstanding FCPS 1st and 2nd grade teachers with years of experience. For our rising 3rd -5th graders, we will provide a complete curriculum of enrichment in reading, writing and math, tailored to the students’ needs in each class and designed to boost maximum achievement. These classes will be taught by current excellent, experienced FCPS teachers from the AAP program. In the fall, our rising 6th graders will take the IAAT math test that will determine whether or not they will be eligible to take Algebra I Honors in 7th grade. In our camp, we will offer classes that can prepare them to do well on the test. Students who attended our summer camp in 2013 performed very well on the IAAT test. The instructor is a current 6th grade AAP teacher who has been teaching in FCPS for many years. His dedication and hard work has earned him high respect from all of our parents and students. We will offer full day TJ Prep classes and teach middle school competition math, such as MathCounts, AMC, Math Olympiad and Math League to our rising 7th and 8th graders. These classes will be taught by both English and math teachers. The English teacher for TJ prep is a current FCPS 10th grade English teacher who has been teaching for 20 years. Many of her students achieved a perfect score on both the TJ test and SAT exam. The math teachers are skilled, qualified MathCounts coaches. 99% of their students achieved a very high score on the math portion of the TJ test. Many of their students have been selected to attend the prestigious MathCounts State competition and performed very well. We will offer English reading comprehension, essay writing and vocabulary building skills and strategies to 9th -10th grade students. They all will take SAT in the future. Before we can help them achieve high scores, we need to help them build solid foundations. The instructor is a reputable Fairfax County high school teacher who has earned the praise of countless parents and students. All of our teachers know by heart how to help your children not only meet but exceed grade-level expectations and to perform their best on the tests. These teachers have been specifically requested and praised by both parents and students. Furthermore, parents have expressed their satisfaction that their children have simultaneously enjoyed learning and improved their English and math skills under careful instruction of these teachers at our summer camp and weekend classes.
